Fiber in Motion!
We welcomed several cria this year from our herd sire, Sir Gareth, who are beautiful. We have been learning more about sustainability, pasture management and are changing many methods on the farm. Jeanne has become FAMACHA Certified and we are using this new knowledge to manage parasite control in a new way. It is exciting to see more research applied to improving alpaca health and therefore, fiber quality.
As an apprentice grader and sorter of alpaca fiber, I am been immersed in fiber all year long. I am one of those crazy people who just loves alpaca fiber, even when I am sorting it straight off the alpaca, dirt and all! I find it very exciting to see the character and possibilities for each fleece and to be able to teach breeders about their animals and how to make improved breeding decisions. I have been working to improve my spinning skills and learning about all kinds of natural and synthetic fibers.
If you have fiber that you wish to have sorted in the Certified Sorted method, please contact me. I will be happy to share all I have learned and show you how to profit from your fiber.
